The Khadempour Lab can be found at Rutgers University-Newark, in the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences. Our lab sits at the nexus of microbiology, ecology, and evolution. We use insect-microbe symbioses and other constrained microbiomes to study the relationships between ecology and evolution. We endeavor to understand how insects have evolved with microbial symbionts as an interface between them and their environments, and how microorganisms can be used to test and further develop eco-evolutionary theory. To do this work, we combine fieldwork, bench work (both culture work and molecular biology), and the synthesis of large ‘omics datasets in a variety of systems.
